Square Magnet

The base has an embedded magnet. By attaching either a square or round magnet to the bottom of the mini you can securely (but not permanently) attach the base to the mini.

Because the magnet in the base is square, attaching a square magnet to the mini prevents the mini from rotating freely on top of the base. Forcing it to be oriented in one of 4 directions. This makes the attachment between the mini and base very solid. A round magnet, on the other hand, allows the mini to rotate freely on top of the base. This video demonstrates the difference between the two.
